    I know where you and your tinfoil hat are going to go with this troy, and no gold and silver are not money, and yes FRNs are. Money has to be a unit of exchange, store of account (easily divisible), and a store of value. Federal reserve notes meet all of that, Gold and Silver don't. They're stores of value, but can I take my 10 oz silver bar and buy a loaf of bread with it? No, because the 7-11 wouldn't accept it (medium of exchange) and they can't divide the bar for change (unit of account)

Yes, of course the Federal Reserve is the central banking system of the U.S., but because of it's activity in conjunction with the U.S. Treasury, you could still say they are part of the gov. 2. Money: any circulating medium of exchange, including coins, paper money, and demand deposits. *continued*
