January 8th, 2009 at 12:37:30 My dad told me about a story of his buddy that he went to school with. All he did was play hockey and had a scholarship and every thing well one night when he was out with his friends and gf they got into a major accident and he was crippled. He didn't get to play for the team. He then Turned to his stereo and turned on this song. He told me that this song was written for his buddy and was played at his graduation. When ever my dad hears this song he still gets chills down his back.
January 8th, 2009 at 13:00:29 Even though the song is about hockey, it was featured in the baseball movie "The Final Season" which was released in 2007. It is a fantastic song that really inspires me. For some reason I had never heard it until I saw the movie. It would be great to show the clip from the movie where the song is played. Tom has a great song here!!!
January 8th, 2009 at 13:23:28 Once again, I am suprised by how many people know this story. When they are in your family you know it, but so many people still remember it...

January 8th, 2009 at 16:50:19 This is about George Pelawa, a 18 yr old MN hockey player and the 1986 first round draft choice of Calgary. He received a scholarship to play at North Dakota, which is the college the song refers to. A semi-truck veered over into the wrong lane of a two-lane highway, and a head-on collision occurred. No alcohol was involved, and a sleepy trucker was involved. Tom Cochrane met George's father shortly after his son's death, and the story stuck in his mind, and the song was written around 1988
January 8th, 2009 at 17:13:18 its about his friends son who died in a car accident and he played hockey anytime he could and had a scholership to michigan and was going to be in the nhl

January 8th, 2009 at 17:59:16 I'm an American and don't know as much about hockey as you people do. Could you please fill me in about the guy who this song is about? So sorry about the loss.

January 8th, 2009 at 20:17:10 I'm 47 years old and I still to this day get watery eyes when I hear this song. Losing one's son or daughter is the worst pain known to man. I pray I or any of you won't ever know what it really feels like. My dad does---it's the only time I ever saw him cry. How does the saying go about the grace of God? Thank you Tom for a great, powerful, meaningful song.
